Internet Business Online – Looking Back

If you were starting online this week, what do you hope someone would tell you?

This past week my good friend, Rebecca Woodhead asked the question above in a Facebook group that she runs.

There were a lot of great answers but it got me to thinking that there are probably many, many more things that people wished they had known and would do differently if they were starting online this week, if they had only been told.

I am also curious; if you would have repeated your same pathway or taken the advice you were given?  I realize this could be a hard question to answer.

My answer to this question was: Use good judgment, not listen to the hype you hear and you cannot learn it all in one day.  It is very easy to be drawn in by the fast pace of the internet world but it still does not replace hard work, a plan and goals.

Becky Adams from BeckyAdams.co responded with; “Definitely the patience and persistence required. And also how it’s a continuous journey. You must never stop working on yourself.”

Social media (talking to people and building relationships) today, more than ever plays a huge role in your success online, along with a marketing plan.  Even if you decide you would you rather work behind the scenes in a technical position, such as affiliate marketing with niche sites, there is still much to learn in order to make money online.  If you are not careful, you will spend more money than you should in buying every shiny new “program” that is out there.  Not to say that these programs are bad but some programs are more suited to some people than others;  determine your strengths and do what you do best.

Jason Baudendistel offered these words of wisdom; “Patience is huge its actually a weakness of mine I’m all like results now. lol”

Jason and myself included sometimes fall into the “I want it NOW.” mindset.  That mindset can definitely be a hazard to your business, your self esteem and your self confidence in what you can do.

Having it in your head that you will become rich and successful overnight is just not going to happen and the sooner you accept that, the better off you will be.  If you have that mindset to start with and it does not happen, then your confidence and your motivation to continue on has taken a great hit.  I grant it there may be the occasional person who may have became successful overnight but I can almost guarantee you that it was a “fluke” or they had a tremendous amount of money to start with.

Robin Emdom states: “Rome wasn’t built in a day! It takes time, patience and persistence – oh and… a sense of humour! :-)

So far we all agree that “patience and persistence” are a tremendous key to success on the internet.

From Rob Wind, his advice is: “It is like building a stone wall brick after brick, it costs time and be consistent.”

Another word you need to focus on is being “consistent.”  If you are not consistent and people do not see you, then no one will know you, what you are about or even that you are out there working your tush off.

In Summary, the overall main thing people wished they were told when they started online is:

1.  Patience.

2.  Persistence,

3.  Consistency.

4.  Focus.

5.  Never stop working on yourself.

  • So I am asking this question to you;  If you were starting online this week, what do you hope someone would tell

you and would you follow that advice?

Share this with your friends, tweet and share in Facebook.  People, getting involved is also another very important part of growing your audience and “branding of yourself, your name and what your values are.”
